Yes, with a freshly updated pbuilder sid chroot with libxft-dev installed by pbuilder, I get the same error message as you: checking for i486-linux-gnu-g++... i486-linux-gnu-g++ checking for C++ compiler default output file name... configure: error: C++ compiler cannot create executables See `config.log' for more details. make: *** [config.status] Error 77 I have no clue about the cause, but the versions of g++ and the build-depends on this package are identical on etch and sid.
