Similar issue happened on the -3 package but I managed to get that to
install with manually stopping all courier processes before upgrading.

Hi,
I triaged this bug by doing the following:
1) installed Debian stretch VM
2) apt install courier-authdaemon
3) dist-upgraded to buster
4) checked that courier-authdaemon cleanly restarted during upgrade with
`systemctl status courier-authdaemon`
This bug is not reproducible anymore. See the systemd bug #889144 for details.
As such I'm closing this bug report.
