My point was that, since udev usually manipulates /dev, and network
devices don't show up in /dev, udev manipulations might not help with
problems involving the names of network devices.

Though there is an example that does set a name in /dev (I presume) at 
http://www.reactivated.net/writing_udev_rules.html#example-iface
