Package: anki
Version: 2.0.31+dfsg-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

Every time I try to install Anki on more than one Debian Stretch machine,
whether via apt-get or gdebi, the program does not run. Despite installing all
"required" dependencies, it consistently fails with the same message:

Traceback (most recent call last):

File "/usr/bin/anki", line 7, in <module>
    import aqt
File "/usr/share/anki/aqt/__init__.py", line 12, in <module>
from PyQt4.QtWebKit import QWebPage, QWebView, QWebSettings
ImportError: No module named QtWebKit

I cannot work around this problem. In fact, it took a while to discover (the
first time) since Anki is a GUI program.

This problem also occurs on Raspbian Stretch armhf, and I daresay with all
operating systems and system configurations missing the mysterious "QtWebKit".

Dear Simon,

Indeed; anki 2.0.31+dfsg-1 is not part of the stretch release for this
very reason; it worked on jessie (Debian 8), though. I'm therefore
closing this bug report.

There is currently a working snapshot (a pre-release version of 2.1.6)
in unstable, which will be released with buster, all being well.

If you want to use Anki with Debian Stretch, I'm afraid you will have
to download the precompiled version from the Anki website and run it
locally; it is not in the form of a Debian package, but it does
include the correct versions of all necessary libraries.

I hope this is of some help.

   Julian
