The issue is reproducible on mipsel with
  MALLOC_ARENA_MAX  = 1
  DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS = noopt parallel=1
The package was building in experimental, the faulty version only
differs by
  LDFLAGS += -Wl,--no-allow-shlib-undefined -Wl,--no-copy-dt-needed-entries
The dependencies have not changed much either.
Maybe the problem probably originates in compiler changes.
