You're right -- The Debian package dependencies may not be enough here. I had a look at the dkms.conf file for zfs and think that dkms really ought to build spl for linux-headers-foo-new: ,---- | BUILD_DEPENDS[0]="spl" `---- Now I wonder why this has no effect -- and whether BUILD_DEPENDS in DKMS means what I think it means...
