I don't think there is a preference between perl and python. I guess
that at this point, there is a bunch of perl foo within devscripts that
you can lift, whereas there is a little less python, so right now it's
whatever you prefer.
(also, I myself can deal with python much easier than perl, but there
are enough people understanding both)
