Indeed, in my case the `.key` existed while the one meant for the
certificate had a different extension...So as you confirmed, the
observed "overwriting" behavior is intended. However, I think my point
about not expecting this is still valid - as the neither the comment in
the `/etc/dkms/framework.conf` nor the man page does mention this with
any word.
