I can reproduce this in clean chroot on barriere.d.o. Interestingly, FTBFS
happens only when building on two threads, four thread build succeeds. I have a
feeling that the test execution order is important somehow. Will give a look
and/or forward upstream. New upstream release is out, need to check first if
the issue persists there.

More to the point: This has never failed for me on single-CPU systems
(where I've also tried a lot of times).

I see in the build log that the tests are invoked in this way:

   dh_auto_test
        cd obj-x86_64-linux-gnu && make -j2 check ARGS\+=--verbose ARGS\+=-j2

so maybe forcing -j1 at such point would serve as a workaround.

Thanks.
