I can confirm that upgrading fwupd and libfwupd2 on Trixie to 1.9.14-1 and installing the package maintainer's version of /etc/fwupd/fwupd.conf allowed the fwupd status to start:

I kept fwupd at 1.9.11-1 since this bug was reported, but the new version seems to be in the clear.
