I introduced the test a long time ago because people were using gscan2pdf to create PDFs from images with defined resolution but undefined units.
For these people, the resulting PDF will have the wrong size. So no. This is not just about the test suite.For me, the correct solution would be for imagemagick to make an assumption about the units, i.e. ppi, ppmm, or ppcm, rather than throwing away the resolution information completely and therefore assuming 72ppi.
