Hi, I'm Francis Lavoie, a maintainer of Caddy
https://github.com/francislavoie

I'd like to request that Caddy either be regularly updated in the
Debian repos in lockstep with mainline Caddy, OR that it be entirely
removed from the Debian repos.

Caddy's presence in Debian repositories causes massive confusion for users
who install it expecting a working and current version. which is not the
case. They then consult the docs (which are not versioned, because we never
designed Caddy to be the kind of software you stay on old versions for a
significant amount of time), ask for help on our community forums
https://caddy.community (just search for "2.6.2" in the forums to find how
often it happens) and we have to tell them to reinstall using our official
instructions instead.

It was also disappointing that it was added to Debian repos without
communicating with us, nobody from the Debian packaging team reached out to
discuss it with us. Also, the Debian package has patches that remove
functionality for opinionated reasons that we find strange.

We have our own .deb repo (served by Cloudsmith) that we maintain and
produce from our CI pipeline and is GPG signed. This is what users should
use for the forseeable future:

Thanks
