Source: log4net
Severity: important
Usertags: cli-common-removal
Control: affects -1 src:cli-common
log4net build-depends on cli-common, that has been orphaned for one full year:
https://bugs.debian.org/1079871
As part of a clean-up task driven by the Mono Team (that is, myself alone),
we are going to ask for the removal of cli-common from the archive soon.
This would lead to the inability to build log4net, and as a side-effect to
its removal from the archive too.
If cli-common is not really required to build log4net, maybe a build-depend
on mono-devel would be enough to keep that package building. Otherwise there
is no real alternative outside of the removal of both cli-common and log4net,
or someone actually taking over the maintenance of cli-common (this is not
going to happen unless you decide to adopt it yourself).
If youâd like to keep providing log4net in Debian, and as such need it to
build-depend on mono-devel, you need to be aware that nothing is checked about
mono-devel beside ensuring it actually builds:
https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/Mono#Scope_of_Framework_Mono_maintenance
If you need mono-devel to be a reliable build-dependency, you should consider
joining the Mono Team to ensure it actually stays reliable,
