I do think that what I did do, is useful as the upgrade to 1.6.x needs to
happen anyway.
It's just that I got to a point where the amount of time I needed to put
into it *additionally* wasn't worth it (to me) considering the 'additional'
benefit: Does the zeroc-ice-compat patch set *compile* (essentially).

The problems which prevented compilation of RC1 may already have been fixed.
Quite a few commits/fixes have landed in the 1.6.x branch since 'RC', so if
another (RC) release is made with those included, it may already succeed.
Or if src:soci 4.1.4 was available, which IIUC also fixes several issues.
Waiting for either or both seems more useful.

FYI: ZeroC Ice 3.8 compatibility has been pushed to 1.7.
