Yes I used apt-get for this.  The reason is that I already had bootsplash-theme-debian installed, because I had just removed bootsplash to copy the output so I could send it.  I removed both and here is what happens:

# apt-get install bootsplash
bootsplash failed to preconfigure, with exit status 10
Selecting previously deselected package bootsplash-theme-debian.
(Reading database ... 188107 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking bootsplash-theme-debian (from .../bootsplash-theme-debian_0.5-6_all.deb) ...
Selecting previously deselected package bootsplash.
Unpacking bootsplash (from .../bootsplash_3.3-1_i386.deb) ...
Setting up bootsplash-theme-debian ( 0.5-6) ...
Setting up bootsplash (3.3-1) ...
dpkg: error processing bootsplash (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 10
Errors were encountered while processing:
 bootsplash
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Then I also did:
# apt-get install -f

I actually *don't* understand why this doesn't install
bootsplash-theme-debian. bootsplash *depends* on it so that package
should be installed along with bootsplash alone.

WHat do you use to install it? apt-get?
