hangs after installation on debian sarge in the dpkg-reconfiguration
until exim4 (exim4-daemon-heavy 4.50-8) is restarted manually from another console

same experience on kernel 2.4.27 and (on a different computer) kernel
2.6.14

we are using debian sarge with all security updates on two machines with
kernel 2.4.27 (built from kernel-source-2.4.27) and kernel 2.6.14 (built
from kernel-source-2.6.14 from edge).
