Sorry, but it has been decided that etch will support only 2.6 kernels, and the only available kernel on sparc32 is non-SMP (due to SMP brokenness that you mentioned). Thus, while this is probably a legitimate bug, the described configuration is not officially supported in etch, so it should not be release-critical. Therefore, I'm lowering the severity appropriately.
