Ah. asdf _always_ used $HOME, and as the extentions are build using asdf it will touch it. There was another bug that boiled down to that: 395156 ($HOME was on a NFS share with squash-root set, installing clisp will fail). If this is the cause of the problem the only thing I can do it set $HOME to some value (/tmp or something) in debian/rules. Changing asdf would risk making it too incompatible with the standard version... Is this an acceptable solution?
