In your last minute notes you point out that for the Alpha you will need
to manually type /etc/init.d/gpm stop  before you can use the mouse.

Why not say how to have this done automatically at boot up?  Is this a
test?
It seems odd that this issue has not surfaced in the mailing list
archives.
