I'm thinking that my best option would be to build a complete, yet small Debian install (my distro of choice for this project) and move it onto a CD. Booting that, I would copy it onto an fdisked hard drive, edit /etc/lilo.conf and re-run lilo accordingly. Pull the CD, reboot, and hope for the best. I just have to figure out how my CD-RW works, I've never tried configuring it under linux. It's my last piece of hardware out of five PC's... And yes, it does help.
