Hello Carlos, I posed myself the same question, not only regarding the packages, but also regarding the actual kernel. This is how I helped myself practically: a. I installed the snapshot of 28th of May. b. I installed kde 3.5 as preferred surface. c. I consequently eliminated every unusual gnome stuff. d. I performed an upgrade to Debian Sid. e. I performed an upgrade to KDE 3.5.7. f. I performed an upgrade to Openoffice 2.2. g. I performed an upgrade to koffice 1.6.3. h. I compiled a vanilla 2.6.21.5 kernel from kernel.org. My personal remarks on that: a. I am still very happy that I ever decided to get completely rid of Bill Gates's Windoze crap. b. I think that there should be TWO Debian trees in the future instead of three: stable and unstable instead of stable, testing and unstable: i. e. the two trees called testing and unstable should merge into one - both completely downloadable (the latter is the new decision). c. Regarding kernel 2.6.21.5 Linus Torvalds, Andrew Morton and all world-wide Linux developers DID DO a definitely good job, whereas 2.6.20 and 2.6.19 were nothing but unusable quick-shot crap that nobody appreciates nor likes. d. I am very happy with my current solution. Yours Sincerely A still very happy Debian user called Uwe from Germany P. S.: If you do not run an AMD K7 machine with a SCSI controller installed you can even avoid using Debian minimum netinst CD images and better take Sidux which is the most excellent Live-CD derivate that I ever met in my life. -- Psssst!
