Dear all:

(The entire email refers specifically  to KDE on Debian_7.7.0_amd64)
I am new to Debian.

I need to be able to install packages offline through the CD/DVD sets.

According to page 103 of  "debian-handbook.pdf", I need to execute *apt-cdrom
add* before *apt-get install [name]* if I want to installpackages through
CD/DVD.

However, on the "live install" image of debian:*apt-cdrom add* does not work.
*apt-cdrom ident* does not work as well.I tried to access /etc/fdtab through
*mount /etc/fstab*, again It says fstab not found.I tried to edit /etc/fdtab
through *gedit /etc/fstab* to assign the cdrom mount, It says gedit command not
found.
So my questions are:1. Does *apt-cdrom add*, *apt-cdrom ident*, *mount
/etc/fstab*, *gedit /etc/fstab* work on the "live install" image.
2. After a *real* install through complete CD/DVD set, will *apt-cdrom add* and
*apt-get install [name]* work straight out of the box?     (
       see
"this program only works if your CD-ROM is properly configured in your
system's /etc/fstab."
       in
       https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/apt-howto/ch-basico.en.html#s-cdrom
    )

3. After a *real* install through complete CD/DVD set, will *mount /etc/fstab*
or */etc/fstab* brings out the "file system table"?
4.  On a real install of Debian,
If I see CD-drive mounted on KDE (an icon representing CD/DVD drive
appears),
will *apt-cdrom add* and *apt-get install [name]* then work? (i.e. does it
mean that "CD-ROM is properly configured in my system's
     /etc/fstab." ?)
5. Kindly provide me the procedure of "configuring CD-ROM in system's
/etc/fstab"
Kindly reply ASAP!
Regards
Quek
