After an incredible comedy of errors[*], I'm back on the net. I've tried contacting Klee several times (both by phone and by email). I'm going to give him one more phone call while I canvas for people interested in replacing him. [One person I contacted is also having problems with his email system. Another I just asked this morning, and he's not had a chance to respond yet.]
FYI, -- Raul [*] "Highlights" of the comedy of errors: 0. I'm working remotely, and my main debian machine is in a machine closet in Virginia. 1. Someone decided to organize that closet, without giving any notice. 2. They turned off my machine. 3. They couldn't figure out how to turn it back on -- said switch was stuck. 4. They ordered a new power supply and floppy from Dell. 5. When the parts arrived the next morning, someone signed for them and didn't deliver them to the person they were addressed to. 6. When tracking down where the parts were, the desk where they had been delivered claimed that the person who had signed for them didn't exist. 7. Finally, Monday, it turns out that the person who had signed for them did exist, but had gone on vacation as of Monday. 8. When putting the machine back together, the boot floppy had been misplaced and the machine came up in a useless [for remote work] configuration [yeah: this one is partly my fault -- then again, I had not anticipated that someone would replace the floppy drive]. 9. Boot floppy, when found [I'd left a small stack of them], didn't bring up machine either. 10. When walking someone through debugging it, the monitor didn't work. New video card ordered. 11. After fussing at people, someone looked at it enough to reseat the monitor card. 12. Turns out fsck was waiting for a root password for /. 13. After bringing machine up, ethernet cable fell out.
