Package: debbugs
Severity: wishlist
I just responded to a bug report and mailed [EMAIL PROTECTED] and
[EMAIL PROTECTED] I got two copies back via the PTS when I
should have got only one.
The semantic of the -submitter email has always been that it's a simple
alias to the submitter and nothing else (no record in the bug trail, no
forward to -bugs-dist). This was not always well known and is often a
source of confusion (see #96134 for a request to change).
In any case, currently it makes sense to not forward mails sent to
-submitter email to the PTS since people are sending a copy directly to
the [EMAIL PROTECTED] email.

Those headers proves that I effectively got a copy via the -submitter mail.
The other copy had:

If you ever decide to change the semantic of -submitter, please mail
debian-devel-announce and ask people to update the documentation.
BTW, I tend to agree that xxx-submitter@ should reach the bug log and the
submitter.
Pro:
- simpler to use for developers, no need to put two emails in the headers
Cons:
- another alias for the public bug log that will be catched by spammers
- people used to the semantic
Cheers,
