Hello, Thanks for your message. Actually, the Stable release does not receive "feature bug" corrections, only security and very important bug corrections [0]. The latter is very uncommon. But it is very important that you report your perceived bugs at the bug tracking [1]. You can use handy reportbug [2] or even handier graphical reportbug-ng [3] from lenny that also works on etch without backporting (at least some versions ago). Even if your reported bug is not classified for Stable correction, it will be used for Unstable and MAYBE could be backported [4], becoming available for use at the Stable release for those who choose to use such repository. There was a version of kde backported but by today it is only partially backported. Maybe in few weeks the entire new kde could be backported again. If you do not report bugs, they could be never solved... An interesting approach for future debian desktops is being tried by the BrDesktop [5] project. With ALL packages inside Debian repositories, they aim to issue a Stable +(testing | backported) packages each 6 months, starting from lenny. If they become successfull at this task, it could be accepted, in the future, as an alternative tasksel for main debian. It is not an easy task, as security and (enough) desktop stability must be addressed at such massive backport flux. But this effort could be more useful if good bug reports are submitted.
