Hi, are you using EFI or standard bios ? Do you know the resolution GRUB uses ?
You may get that kind of information from the grub commandline (hit C
from grub menu) by typing videoinfo or vbeinfo depending on grub mode.
The output of :
update-alternatives --display desktop-grub
could be useful too.
