Try this on your machine. It might be a clue. Or it might not turn up anything at all. But it is worth a try. cd /var/lib/dpkg/info grep /tmp/root * That is where the post install scripts reside. Perhaps one of the packages you installed has a post install script which created that. A shot in the dark. Bob
