Couldn't there be an opportunity somewhere to have some possible hook
in dpkg/apt/whatever that could drop specific fields on control files
when the Packages file is written/updated on disk?

This could be set by local admins...or there could be a default
per-architecture...whatever.

That would then achieve the goal of reducing the Packages.gz file size
in low resources environments (why not even drop the long description
when resources are very scarce?) without preventing innovative
initiatives such as this one....
