You probably inadvertently removed the package containing your chosen cursor
theme. My guess would be dmz-cursor-theme.

The gnome-desktop-environment metapackage Depends on that theme, and
gnome-themes Recommends it, so if you have either of those installed,
autoremove shouldn't remove it.

If you don't have either of those packages installed, it's not clear to me
what you'd expect anything to do differently. If you remove the theme you've
chosen to use, things no longer look like that theme - I don't think that's
a bug.
