TBH I'd rather see that implemented as part of NetworkManager itself. Using a separate daemon for this looks wrong to me. VPN autoconnect is definitely on the TODO list of NetworkManager [1] and upstream would be happy to help with this effort. Please communicate this to the author of vpnautoconnect, maybe he is interested in joining the NM development and implement it in NM proper.
