To push individual tags, use "git push origin 1.2-3" or something, instead of "git push --tags". To get rid of the upstream tags from your local copy, "git tag -d"; to stop them coming back when you fetch, put in .git/config: [remote "upstream"] tagopts = --no-tags ...
