-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA256 Hi all,
I am pleased to announce the unofficial Debian monthly testing snapshot release for August 2011 (version 2011.08). This release is currently available in two flavors (i386 and amd64) as mini iso images downloadable from: http://alioth.debian.org/~gilbert-guest/snapshots/2011.08/debian-testing-snapshot-2011.08-i386-mini.iso sha512sum: bf4d0ae84fd9d0817bb647f8f0d727f84b317fac7b9d47b8a768256b1c3700252617f995ddebad6a4806f17e518fc515a2a53d04165439639df8b3d9de55578f http://alioth.debian.org/~gilbert-guest/snapshots/2011.08/debian-testing-snapshot-2011.08-amd64-mini.iso sha512sum: 33eef14ad7b2be8341774848f7ddb28a295528905613ee5c506b69ab9974de9ad29700a19d5fa22d0bfaae7779b96197e47f7a257b789d1ca027bcfd47667213 These files can be written to CD or DVD media or directly to a USB stick. Instructions for USB installation can be found here: http://www.debian.org/releases/squeeze/i386/ch04s03.html.en IMPORTANT: There will be no inherent security support for these snapshot releases. The images do automatically set up testing-security as an apt source during installation, so any DTSA's (Debian Testing Security Advisories) will be automatically applied to snapshot installations. However, the security team does not issue many updates this way anymore (optioning instead to primarily use unstable uploads as a means to fix testing). This is an area that could potentially be improved if there are volunteers interested in this problem. For more information on current testing security processes, see: http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/secure-testing/doc/narrative_introduction Ideally for those wishing to have a mostly security supported system, the snapshot media will simply be a reliable stepping stone for installation followed by an upgrade to testing proper, which does receive quasi-official support from the security team (i.e. uploads to unstable that transition to testing). To upgrade from a previous snapshot, change the existing snapshot entries in your /etc/apt/sources.list to: deb http://snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian/20110430T092551Z wheezy main deb-src http://snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian/20110430T092551Z wheezy main Note that upgradability of individual packages isn't necessarily guaranteed. Note that this is an unofficial project since it does not come with the backing or support from Debian as a team, but hopefully that will change in the future as the concept is proven out. Anyway, enjoy! And send feedback to cut-t...@lists.alioth.debian.org. Best wishes, Mike Gilbert -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.11 (GNU/Linux) iQQcBAEBCAAGBQJOPajcAAoJELjWss0C1vRzRdIgAL/RdqFTuHBRyKIqR6gSCp/m Zw9hwa3j36HWvAGpeQoYfwUxLGS4oCQvDbeUL//hjqm61uiAweOpe48o5sYc36Iu 7OL5tzJYcvYmpY9vsNyax1SfsCNr+3l0PoEA60Lqck87f93S0Hw49EwRgCUMIPSE 3aovWMDp5lBaRZB9/Yhl+USLgUrrSfDchZ6l/PcH1bIt+Z3ZxQuBvQkcOcD5Pnuy 7dKx/RHWV3zGqp70kT2YzcKW8uVfZUOhpU8RsLVlWR/BXiSzmLEpON37jLmFLqdE 6IWrEcPylIf1Hcmf/GJARw78RTsSzWhW56yRPV/i5g1SE7Pbz4kQjkz/+g9+SoP7 kiNgMXEjKy/H0DBePSLv++SE4UaS//wKjzWbM9f0UfQfVV/AqU9wV8NDQU7tPc5L cKoom+ic16xl3L3b9Hy8tQJHu2hmssslIoH+JIwO6edT+6BnMaLCJi2ghp8nrL1v RA1j1I9DUlPoRnbqfTwY2bKpOQVKElMuVLRyI4mwYYc2e4c1J1qRJSUGWIc37xPs URUmjEwlroBWhGWoQurGrHs5u87WOmzWgTUrR9IU9rwBNtAy3GX8QRZKarO1yOjr w8xcBQT3IXv+RlcVQXm+pUXLMTc1ufkNZluAW6Ji9eKaXkNseiQBrvqQktsyRIMy bTgG0GzgotfgKpnAP+r8mVI8TjY54E24AeehJMoosCmmQIYHPZcZ7A4WQKOgUHah +HfGd8Qpe2tQoDcAVPpV55iNtyJuFszHCe7mrps0HSC4wEOC8jooj5g5hVoFWp3s y6ocrOPQ/w2pUYdeIPbYnoWpPQzYIHQckxa9wdvy6yhGoOUu9QAGMo1IxZg5nJtM eOKm1tVmsCIsJ0ioX48Mqx1dnkccbrzQQCvzQb7I47N0bDEmP0a6U+da8psHxdHn 32jA3S7KAad+jiS2F7v3YwcUtItWIi/6IU6IDqQ+MG9gyve67rxnuvDaKjitEDKR ptnV3FrXgkPjwW13pbPjPkLejGX2+bcI/FEUdL+VLA+GgeS+2G4jWvUcQjeIbW1f 8hU3L3nHNvA963OpFIsSccOuPoFKxdtPFd6V1hUPIr3WubmIFqZ2KySlHxB5pKBi FedatYJZN4qIv6lctE2qdONGSgFQv6HwwpQkNnf/Z12lzwEmazE03AqMVPhaa1/1 Go69rA92RmSJbbcJNtRDJLAHriiKlTI0sQQf9OWBRd6jjMfCaSApWJQ5oBm7A9Ku avAZX3cAMzH1uaP+sKQDtwn6kgljWsfD+HV8jgO+dMwhWLEYvVzgX3zzP/5aiZGG 6fto0VulqgP7n9rv4RXU5kuRvNMdIsQpYXdq8NohUV7XMXYxJAKt+ycRUwaK/p0= =fBDF -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-devel-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
