I don't know what is the "main" reason for other people. (But I doubt it's about saving space as you're trying to imply.)

yet you want to fix the compression issue by not compressing them and using even more space?

Is that surprising to you that different people can advocate the very same thing for different reasons?

I think that compressing documentation is an anachronism, which we should get rid of regardless of whether it helps multi-arch or not.
