Mainly because the used JS files aren't packaged yet for Debian. This makes the resulting package non-free from the DFSG PoV. That's why I decided to use the suffix '-nonfree' for now. Resulting also the binary packages will go into non-free. If someone is willing to help making this package DFSG compatible I'd really be glad to take such an offer. This package is a dependency for netbox I consider to package. The package will get maintained within the Debian Python Team.
