I tested an FTDI device (ID 0403:6001, Serial UART) in three separate systems.
None of the experienced any unusual issues, except that the USB port in one of
the test systems is apparently a little touchy.

In all three cases, the device was recognized correctly. In all three cases,
the rest of the system continued to behave as expected. No lockup of any kind
was observed. Removal of the FTDI device caused no issues.

Conclusion: the lockups are a result of an issue on the problem host, not the
FTDI driver, without any additional information to explain the difference in
behavior.

What follows is merely system detail to describe the test cases.

Case 1: i686 system, VIA C3 (32-bit) running Debian 12.2, PS/2 keyboard, no
mouse.

Case 2: i686 system, Intel Atom N270 (32-bit) running Debian 11.7, Logitech USB
keyboard and mouse.

Case 3: x86_64 system, Intel Pentium N4200 (64-bit) running Debian 11.7,
Logitech USB keyboard and mouse.
