as a regular workflow: sure.

In our regular workflows we already get peer-pressured into using version 5 by 
lintian.

Which we need to override to keep our packages lintian clean as long as version 
5 is not supported by devscripts on trixie systems.

however, I take the original suggestion as: could you please test our latest and greatest 
release of "uscan", to see whether the problem has been fixed already?
which I think is a perfectly normal approach in software development.

once it is established that version 5 "does the right thing",  there's one more 
incentive to upload it to backports.

That doesn't help users on trixie which can't have a working watch file right 
now.
