Hello,

this is more of a mere heads-up at this stage, but during this forky
release cycle, the Debian Qt/KDE team plans to remove KDE Frameworks 5,
also called KF5.

The KDE Frameworks are a set of roughly 75 C++ libraries based on Qt.
They are mainly used by the KDE Plasma desktop and many more projects
from upstream KDE, though other external projects use them as well. KF5
is based on Qt 5 and has been superseded by KDE Frameworks 6 which is
based on Qt 6 and which is the basis for the current Plasma desktop.

The KF5 libraries are effectively EOL as the last release happened in May
2024 and no further updates are expected. Our goal is to remove these
libraries during this release cycle. However, a number of packages still
depend on these libraries. We will therefore not push the issue at this
stage, but instead start with removing the leaf packages that do not
have any reverse dependencies.
The packages that still use KF5 will have to be ported to Qt 6 sooner or
later. The Qt/KDE team has no intention of maintaining KF5 beyond the
forky release cycle. Should these package still be needed beyond that,
we plan to orphan them in order to avoid having to remove their reverse
dependencies.

For the Debian Qt/KDE team, Patrick & Aurélien
