Should Debian run some AI (LLM or LLM+1) as a service to help its DDs? Preferably that being an AI that the Debian community trains (fine-tunes as a start) itself?
That AI should help with packaging and also auto-perform updates when the package maintainer so allows. Any such package could then reside in a distribution "auto", so users could decide if they want to use the auto-generated packages or wait for them to arrive in main.
I am confident that any such automation will run into issues now and then but I am also confident that those will become less over time.
My motivation is a very human one - there are packages I am truly interested in and others that are mostly dependencies for my interest. Dealing with what I am interested in is very rewarding, the dependencies are draining energy of mine - equally all those of past interests that still need maintenance. The current LLMs (like Codex Sol) have become too good to be ignored, also for packaging, as I think. If OpenClaw, OpenCode and/or Pi together with whatever we can come up with that may be a DFSG-mostly-compatible AI can help us with Debian packaging chores, then I want to see this happen - in- or outside (as in "nearby") Debian (not as far as non-free, but a bit more distant than main).
