It's not reasonable to flip-flop on the apt-get/aptitude question every time someone presents a case that isn't currently handled by the upgrade instructions, because there are always going to be corner cases we haven't managed to test that won't upgrade cleanly /whichever/ method we choose. Also, John says he fired up aptitude /interactively/ to resolve the upgrade problems.
