This is a bad bug in the squeeze->wheezy upgrade procedure in that it will leave the Linkstation unbootable with no easy repair option if a pre-upgrade backup of the root file system is not available.
The simplest solution would be to update the squeeze version of micro-evtd so that it behaves the same way as the wheezy one when stopped, so upgrading to wheezy from a fully-updated squeeze would not kill the system!
