THis is actually a bug in the font selection - or the gs fonts, and is by now fixed in unstable with new binaries and removed symlinks for the URW fonts not to mess up fontconfig. I have just now checked out trunk of release notes, and built the Russian version on sid, and all looks fine. I thus close this bug.
