I could not reproduce this bug. I created a dummy package named kernel-image-2.4.0-ac11-anaconda (Version: Custom.1.00) with equiv-build (control file attached). I could install this dummy package without any problems. Thus either the issue was not caused by the package name or it is fixed by now. Do you, by chance [0], still have the kernel-image-2.4.0-ac11-anaconda_Custom.1.00_i386.deb package mentioned in this (old) bug report? Or can you reproduce it with another package?
