Well, maybe I have found a path...

The file /var/lib/dpkg/info/libaspell15.list does not exist, I shall get a
copy from other unstable debian.
This probably should solve the problem around libaspell, but since I am
unsure that the seg fault problem and this one are linked, I cannot tell if
it shall solve the hole thing. Hope will guide me!!

Hello there,

First post on a mailing list, sorry if doing something wrong.
I am running a debian system, using unstable packages, kernel version is
2.6.18.
I have got a problem with dpkg since recent 'apt-get update&& apt-get
upgrade', getting a Segmentation Fault on any package installation or
removal. :
"E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg received a segmentation fault."

Something that could be related, is that almost from install of the whole
system, I get the warning message :
"dpkg: serious warning: files list file for package `libaspell15' missing,
assuming package has no files currently installed." When installing any
program.

But this never stopped the new packages to be installed.

I have done some searching on the net, and found things about regenerating
the dpkg database using "apt-cache dumpavail > avail ; dpkg --update-avail
avail "
but still non success.

Here is an example of process:

#dpkg -i picasa_2.2.2820-5_i386.deb
(Reading database ...
dpkg: serious warning: files list file for package `libaspell15' missing,
assuming package has no files currently installed.
Segmentation fault

Just in case!

Regards,
