Package: dpkg
Version: 1.13.19
Severity: wishlist
File: /usr/bin/dpkg-deb

Why not just give a standard usage message, instead of
this piecemeal discovery process,
$ dpkg -X
dpkg-deb: --vextract needs a .deb filename argument [...]
$ dpkg -X bla.deb
dpkg-deb: --vextract needs a target directory [...]

Given that dpkg -X is not really a command for the end-user and given that
the manual page documents the full command line, I believe it's not worth
fixing those error messages. Thus I'm closing this bug.
