Where was the target directory? Was it outside of the source package tree? > dpkg-source was not happy, which is misleading: Why is it misleading? the debian.tar.gz is supposed to represent the debian directory, it would be misleading if it didn't contain it... Do you mean we should support this or do you mean the error message should be more explicit?
