/usr/local is owner by root:staff, it's most of the time included in PATH, so if something nasty landed there, you probably have bigger issues anyway. Most of your system might be looking there too. And it's just a way to allow the sysadmin to override things, w/o needing to mess with the installed files. Thanks, Guillem
