Source: dpkg Version: 1.18.24 Severity: minor In ancient times, dpkg-dev and dselect used to symlink their /usr/share/doc directory to dpkg. That was not policy compliant (see #452730), and in dpkg 1.14.15 those symlinks were changed to directories.
The preinst scripts removing the symlinks are still around today. It should be safe to drop them, anybody who skipped the last five major releases will face much bigger problems when they finally upgrade. ;-)
