Package: xlibs
Version: 4.0.2-1pre2v2, 4.0.2-7

After xlibs_4.0.2-1pre2v2 was installed, the directory
/etc/X11/xkb/symbols contained only subdirectories, not the symbol files.
The problem persists also after upgrading to 4.0.2-7. The X server then
does not use the xkb extension because it cannot find the symbols files.

During installation of the package, the files first appear all with
.dpkg-dist extension, then, during the 'Setting up xlibs' phase, they are
again deleted.

After hand-copying the files from elsewhere, they are preserved, only the
.dpkg-dist files are removed.

The system is woody-i386, with the xfree packages installed from unstable.

Yes, it looks to me like the files went missing at some point, and
then dpkg honored that and kept not installing the ones coming from
the package. I think this was either a packaging or admin error. Or
"both", f.ex. by upgrading from very old releases, where the packaging
had dropped maintainer script handling or similar.

I'm just going to close this, given the above, and that we have not
seen any similar issues reported. If this can still be reproduced in
other scenarios, please either reopen or file a new report.

Thanks,
