The VARIABLES section of the dpkg-architecture manual starts by
The following variables are set by dpkg-architecture...
However, these variables are also *used* by dpkg-architecture, and
evidenced by the documentation of the --force option:
-f, --force
Values set by existing environment variables with the same name as
used by the scripts are honored (i.e. used by dpkg-architecture)...
I think this piece of information should be presented more prominently,
so I recommend moving this part of the --force documentation into the
DESCRIPTION section and also alluding to it in the VARIABLES section.
