The question "how do i change the MTA" became a FAQ.
Because the exchange of an packet with other packets depending on it
will be of general interest, i think an example would be good in the
manpage.
Here is my suggestion:

To exchange the MTA from smail to exim:
dpkg -r smail
cd /cdrom/debian/dists/stable/binary-i386/mail
dpkg -i exim*.deb
--------------------------------------------------------------------
The above steps are proved to work with smail->qmail and smail->exim.
